The presentation of dental infections can sometimes involve swellings to the face. This is usually from a long standing low grade infection of a tooth. In most cases, the patient will see a medial GP who will give medications like antibiotics and in some cases, the swelling disappears for a period of time. These swelling usually reappear after a few months and can be more severe. As the source of the infection is a septic tooth, the removal of this source is the only course of action to resolve this infection permanently.
The oral & maxillofacial surgeon is well trained to spot such infections and quick and effective treatment must be rendered especially for medically compromised and elderly patients.
