Wisdom teeth

Dr Lim has almost two decades of experience in the
management of wisdom teeth and other conditions where
teeth and lesions of the mouth and jaws are involved. Our
wisdom teeth appear in our mouths between 15 and 23 years
of age. In most patients, there is not enough space and
the wisdom tooth becomes 'impacted'. In some situations,
the gums around the tooth becomes painful and the tooth
may become decayed as well. The removal is usually by a
minor surgical procedure.

Jaw / Orthognathic Surgery

Jaw surgery to correct long and short jaws is one of the basic
tenants of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery. Oral & Maxillofacial
surgeons are extremely well trained in this area. The success of
such surgeries not only requires proper planning of the actual
bone surgery itself but also a very good knowledge of the dental
occlusion. Understanding of the orthodontists' (braces
specialist’s) treatment plan is crucial, so that there can be
meaningful discussions and co-planning to ensure an optimum
outcome for the patient. Other disciplines, like Plastic Surgery
do not have this advantage, as the training is not anchored in
dentistry. The sequence of treatment includes proper consultations
with both the oral & maxillofacial surgeon and orthodontist before
a tentative plan is proposed. The patient's concerns are carefully
noted and the plans directed towards addressing this concern.

Ulcers, Growths, Lumps and Bumps of the mouth and jaw
A major part of Oral &
Maxillofacial Surgery involves the treatment of ulcers and growths
in the mouth and jaws. These include mouth ulcers, minor growths
and jaw cysts. Any unusual growths or non-healing wounds in the
mouth which persists for more than two weeks should be
investigated.
